    Description

Featured in this auction is a small, antique turtle flower frog made by the Brush-McCoy Pottery Co.  This sweet little turtle is unmarked except for its shape #061 but is identified in the reference guide called
    Flower Frogs for Collectors
by Bonnie Bull as having been made by Brush-McCoy circa 1915.  This arts-and-crafts design features a molded turtle to serve as a flower frog.  The body is solid with 6 stemholes that go through to the bottom.  Details have been carved into the turtle, and extraneous, glazed-over indentations and clay tags are visible on the piece (as made).  There are, however, a couple of glaze flakes including one on a front foot (perhaps from the grinding process that was done to flatten the base) and another just under his nose which blends right in with the glaze coloration.  This gorgeous drip glaze is a high-gloss Majolica in green and brown.  Interestingly enough, the artist who worked on this piece also included the numbers "1492" and initials "ALC" on the top of the turtle's shell for reasons unknown.  This piece is otherwise in very good condition with glaze drips onto the base, tiny glaze fleabites along with small clay tags and glaze pinholes.  Stilt pulls are also visible.  There are no chips, no cracks, overall crazing and no repairs.  This turtle is 1-1/4" tall, 4-1/2" long and 2-3/4" wide.  Check out all 12 photos!  This beautiful little piece would be perfect for any American art pottery or Brush-McCoy Pottery collector.  Check out my other pottery listings!
